Most people don't think things could get any worse for House Democrats. But a Supreme Court case expected to be decided by June could actually cost Democrats two more seats in Arizona, putting them even deeper into the minority. Arizona, relative to the nation, has treated House Democrats well lately. In 2012, thanks to the actions of the state's Independent Redistricting Commission, Democrats emerged from a state dominated by a GOP legislature with the map of their dreams and five of the state's nine seats - a rare bright outcome in an otherwise gloomy redistricting cycle for the party. And, Democrats managed to hold four of those seats in the awful 2014 cycle. But Arizona's map could be thrown into chaos if the Supreme Court sides with the GOP legislature's lawsuit and rules the Independent Commission an unconstitutional bypass of the state's elected officials. If the commission's map were to be thrown out, the legislature could easily draw a map virtually guaranteeing themselves a 7-2 edge by dismantling the districts of Democratic Reps. Ann Kirkpatrick (AZ-01) and Kyrsten Sinema (AZ-09).
