Even more surprising, the race is fundamentally tied right now. This was the conclusion of four major and highly credible national polls in the last week. The NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll put Hillary Clinton ahead of Donald Trump by 3 points (46 to 43 percent). A CBS News/New York Times poll put her up by 6 points (47 to 41 percent). An ABC News/Washington Post poll found Trump ahead by 2 points (46 to 44 percent) and a Fox News/Opinion Dynamics survey had the real-estate developer up by 3 points (45 to 42 percent). Average the four together and you get Clinton up by a point. Interviews for the four polls were conducted between May 13 and 19. A previously released CNN poll that showed Clinton up 13 points (54 to 41 percent) was taken more than three weeks ago (April 28-May 1), before Republicans started coming home, into the Trump column.
