For months now, insiders have debated the true extent of GOP Rep. Nancy Johnson's political vulnerability in her race against Democratic state Sen. Chris Murphy. The most recent partisan polling (the only kind we've seen here) doesn't make things any clearer. Murphy's poll taken September 25-27 showed the race tied at 42 percent. A poll taken for Johnson October 1-2, showed the incumbent comfortably ahead, 52 percent to 42 percent.

Still, it's interesting to note that in the four polls that have been released this year, Johnson has gotten anywhere from 42 percent to 52 percent of the vote. Murphy, meanwhile, has been consistently stuck in the low-40's (one GOP poll had him at 36 percent). This suggests that while voters may be open to change - something Murphy has been hammering home in his ads - they haven't yet been sold on Murphy as a credible alternative.

With just 25 days until the election, and a national political environment that looks even bleaker for the GOP, it is no longer as important to split hairs about whether Johnson
