Beyond Sen. Gordan Humphrey's (R-N.H.) retirement announcement, very little has happened on the Senate race front in the last month. There were not anyunexpected entries or departures from races or significant declines. There has been a great deal of anticipation surrounding Sen. Nancy Kassebaum's (R-Kan.) re-election plans with a decision now expected within the next month. There is some thought that Sens. Mark Hatfield (R-Ore.) and Claiborne Pell (D-R-RI) may still opt to retire as well. Sen. Jesse Helms (R-N.C.) now appears likely to seek re-election.
