With all attention focused on the continuing legal and political battles surrounding GOP Governor Evan Mecham, few Republicans seem willing to jump into the race although some observers consider DeConcini to be somewhat vulnerable. It's a good guess that the chief objective of Arizona Republicans will be to hold on to the governorship and minimize the fallout from the Mecham affair rather than tackling DeConcini.
